ANA COSTA RIBEIRO

ANA COSTA RIBEIRO.  Independent artist, filmmaker and writer. PhD in Contemporary Art and Culture from UERJ, Master of Fine Arts in Cinema from San Francisco State University and Bachelor in Social Communication from UFRJ. Was a resident artist at Lab Cinema Expandido (Video Installation Lab/ Museum of Modern Art), at LabVerde (Art and Ecology Immersion Program) and at Walden (Documentary Creation Residency); and held two solo exhibitions: A CASA É QUANDO A GENTE VOLTA (Ateliê da Imagem Gallery) and BEYOND THE FUSION POINT (Espaço Vazio/ Largo das Artes). As a director, made seven short films, including ARPOADOR, and five documentary series, including EDUCATION AND SOCIETY IN BRAZIL. Has worked as an editor for 24 years, having collaborated with several artists and filmmakers on video installations and documentary films. Her essays were published in magazines in Brazil and Portugal. Has been a teacher for 15 years, offering workshops on documentaries, cinematographic language, editing, audiovisual narratives and creative process, among others. In 2023, completed her first feature film as a director: THERMODIELECTRIC, about a natural phenomenon discovered by her grandfather, an experimental physicist. The film had its national premiere at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and its international premiere at IDFA – International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam; and will be released in cinemas in Brazil in October 2024.
